Doek and Slay Bulawayo Set for August
Bulawayo’s fashion‑forward queens are being urged to pull out their jerseys, tennis skirts and sunnies as the much‑loved Doek and Slay movement finally comes to the City of Kings and Queens.
The all‑women empowerment and entertainment showcase is set to light up the ZITF Grounds on 31 August, promising a star‑studded line‑up and an atmosphere built on sisterhood and self‑expression.
This year’s theme takes a playful turn. Instead of the vintage looks that have dominated past editions, organisers are encouraging guests to embrace sports glam — think the jersey of a favourite team, a tennis skirt or jeans, statement shades and a crisp white headband or cap. It’s a fusion of street chic and stadium flair, organisers say, designed to let guests feel bold, stylish and free.
Music will power the celebration late into the night. Zimdancehall star Killer T and Master H, known for their high‑energy performances, are headlining the Bulawayo edition, with organisers promising “a night to remember” for women ready to dance and celebrate.
Doek and Slay, A safe space with global reach

Founded as a women‑only event, Doek and Slay has grown into a movement.
It began as a social gathering celebrating women’s achievements and style, but has since evolved into a sanctuary where women can connect, network and recharge without judgement.
Across previous editions, guests have described it as part party, part therapy session, a place where laughter, dancing and deep conversations happen side by side.
From “girl boss” meet‑ups to spontaneous dance‑offs, the event has carved a niche as one of southern Africa’s most unique celebrations of womanhood.
And the movement’s reach is expanding. Alongside the Bulawayo show, organisers have confirmed a UK edition on 6 September, featuring performers including ExQ, Feli Nandi and Intotalband.
With its mix of music, fashion and empowerment, Doek and Slay continues to prove that wherever the queens gather, the celebration follows.
