Zimbabwe and Zambia Tourism Authorities Forge Stronger Ties
In an effort to enhance tourism prospects and strengthen bilateral ties, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) convened in a series of high-level meetings under the Joint Tourism Facilitation Committee (JTFC).
The meetings, held over the past two days in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, were co-chaired by Ms. Winnie Muchanyuka, the Chief Executive of ZTA, and Mr. Matongo Matamwandi, CEO of Zambia Tourism Agency.
The JTFC was established as a realization of the inter-ministerial engagements on Victoria Falls, an initiative led by Hon. Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndhlovu and his Zambian counterpart, Hon. Rodney Sikuma.
Its main objective is to identify and explore opportunities for cooperation between the two nations in promoting tourism in the region.
During the meetings, both tourism organizations collaborated to map out joint marketing strategies for Victoria Falls and Kariba.
These shared tourism assets and border regions present an opportunity for the countries to combine their resources and expertise for mutual benefits.
Ms. Muchanyuka emphasized the significance of working together, stating, “The two-day meetings have seen the national tourism organizations mapping collaborative activities in the joint marketing of Victoria Falls and Kariba where the countries share tourism assets and borders and organizational operations benchmarking. The overall objective comes from the realization that one cannot win alone; the two countries have shared resources and rich history, expertise, etc. which, together, the countries can achieve more.”
Echoing her sentiments, Mr. Matamwandi stressed the importance of collaboration over competition, saying, “If we work together, we put resources, ideas, and minds together, we can achieve much more. We would rather collaborate, be more effective and efficient than to compete in promoting the Victoria Falls.”
These meetings have marked a significant step forward in promoting tourism and fostering diplomatic relations between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
By jointly leveraging their natural wonders and historical riches, the countries are poised to enhance the allure of Victoria Falls to the global audience.
As both nations continue to work hand in hand, under the auspices of the Joint Tourism Facilitation Committee, the future looks promising for the sustainable growth of tourism in the region.
Tourists and adventurers alike can expect an even more enriched and seamless experience when visiting the majestic Victoria Falls and its surrounding areas.
Through this partnership, Zimbabwe and Zambia are demonstrating that collaboration is the key to unlocking the full potential of their shared tourism assets, creating a win-win situation for both countries and cementing the reputation of Victoria Falls as a must-visit destination for travelers across the globe. – Zim Travel Guide
