Zimbabwean creative SoProfound has unveiled A Decade In The Life, a new long-form interview series that seeks to document the country’s social and cultural history through the lives of its most influential figures.
The programme, which airs on YouTube via SoProfound TV, centres on intimate, in-depth conversations with guests drawn from a wide range of fields, including entertainment, business, sport, politics and education.
One decade, one life story
Each episode focuses on a single decade from a guest’s past. Rather than a broad career overview, SoProfound narrows in on a defining ten-year period, exploring personal experiences, professional milestones and the wider forces that shaped that era.
The approach allows the conversation to move beyond surface-level success, offering viewers insight into the struggles, decisions and turning points that defined a particular phase of a guest’s life.
Together, host and guest also reflect on what was happening in Zimbabwe and globally during that decade, connecting personal stories to national and international events.
A promotional clip of the show in which musician Roki is the guest has already generated a buzz on social media platforms, with many people looking forward to the show.
A broader Zimbabwean archive
Speaking about the concept, SoProfound said the show is designed as both a celebration and a record.
“Guests are not just limited to entertainment; it’s business, sports, politics, education and more. It’s a celebration and a way for us to write and document our story through these individuals,” he said.
He described the series as a “time capsule of the Zimbabwean story”, told through lived experience rather than textbooks or headlines.
“With each decade, we try to connect what’s happening in the country and globally to these individuals’ story,” he added.
More than entertainment
By widening its scope beyond the arts, A Decade In The Life positions itself as a reflective archive of Zimbabwean achievement and resilience.
The format allows viewers to understand how different sectors have evolved, and how individuals navigated changing economic, political and cultural landscapes.
The series also taps into a growing appetite for long-form, reflective content, particularly on digital platforms, where audiences are increasingly drawn to storytelling that offers depth and context.
