Nash Holdings has announced the immediate shutdown of its entertainment operations under the NashTV brand, marking the end of a media platform that became one of Zimbabwe’s most influential during the COVID-19 era.

The company said the closure is part of a strategic shift, with founder Tinashe Mutarisi moving away from entertainment to focus on entrepreneurship, business development, and mentorship.

In a statement, Nash Holdings said that although music and entertainment were never part of its long-term plan, the organisation valued its relationship with local artists and the community that grew around the NashTV brand.

NashTV emerged from Nash Lockdown, an initiative launched at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic to support artists whose livelihoods had been disrupted. The platform grew rapidly, becoming a key driver of online performances and introducing new audiences to emerging local talent.

Over the years, NashTV expanded its work to include artist management, marketing, and promotional services. According to the company, it played a role in elevating several musicians, including Saintfloew, Nisha Ts, Raymer and Ninety6.

“We are proud to have contributed to the rise of these talents and strengthened Zimbabwe’s creative industry,” the statement said.

Mutarisi: ‘I Believe I’ve Done My Part’

Tinashe Mutarisi, the businessman behind NashTV, confirmed he is stepping away from the entertainment sector.

Nash Holdings’ decision comes as Tinashe Mutarisi, the businessman behind the brand, confirmed he is stepping away from the entertainment sector.

In his statement, Mutarisi said he had not yet had time to address the matter fully due to travelling for a funeral, but wanted to clarify the shift in direction.

“I believe I’ve done my part in the entertainment space,” he said. “From the lockdown days to helping lift a few artists, we pushed as hard as we could, and I’m proud of the impact we made.”

Mutarisi added that it is now time for a “new chapter,” saying his focus will shift fully to building businesses and mentoring emerging Zimbabwean entrepreneurs.

“My focus is shifting fully to entrepreneurship, building businesses, and mentoring the next generation,” he said, promising to host a detailed Facebook Live discussion soon.

He also expressed gratitude to the NashTV team and supporters.

Although NashTV’s entertainment operations are winding down, the company said it has already communicated the transition to artists previously under its care.

While stepping away from direct management, Nash Holdings said it will continue to offer support by helping artists build their own studios and connect with professional managers for the next phase of their careers.
