NAMA 2026 Set for February
The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has officially announced that the 24th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) will be held on 28 February 2026.
Speaking at a press conference in Harare NACZ Director for Arts Promotion and Development Mrs Barbara Gotore described NAMA as a “beacon of excellence” that continues to recognise and celebrate Zimbabwean artists who have excelled in their respective fields.
“For over two decades, NAMA has stood as a platform that honours and immortalises the outstanding achievements of our artists,” said Gotore.
“It is the moment we, as a country, say to our artists, we see you, we value you, and we are proud of you.”
Submissions Open for NAMA 2026
NACZ has opened submissions for artists wishing to be considered for the 24th edition.
Eligible works must have been created between 1 December 2024 and 30 November 2025, with artists being urged to ensure their entries are original and produced within the stipulated period.
Mrs Gotore emphasised that only Zimbabwean nationals or residents are eligible to participate, regardless of whether they are registered with NACZ or not.
Entries can be submitted physically or online before the 30 November deadline. Physical submissions will close at 4:30 p.m., while online entries will be accepted until midnight on the same day.
Artists submitting online must send supporting materials or downloadable links to [email protected].
Physical entries should include three supporting items, such as flash drives, photos, or books.
A Fresh Partnership for a New Era
The upcoming edition introduces a new collaboration, with Scarlet Studios and Events Evolution appointed as event managers.
Both companies are expected to bring fresh energy and innovation to Zimbabwe’s premier arts awards.
“We commend Scarlet Studios and Events Evolution for the work they have done so far, and we give them our full support,” Mrs Gotore said.
To ensure transparency, Alinial Chartered Accountants have been engaged as independent auditors for NAMA 2026.
The move, according to NACZ, reaffirms the council’s commitment to maintaining credibility and integrity in the adjudication process.
“Our panel of adjudicators comprises experienced and respected professionals from various arts disciplines.
“They will carry out their duties with the utmost integrity to ensure that only the most deserving entries are honoured.”
A Call for Collaboration
Mrs Gotore also used the opportunity to call on stakeholders to play an active role in ensuring the success of the awards.
To the corporate sector, she extended an invitation to partner with NACZ in supporting Zimbabwe’s creative industries, describing sponsorship as “a strategic investment in the nation’s cultural fabric and creative economy.”
To the media, she expressed gratitude for continued support. She urged them to provide extensive coverage during the nomination, adjudication, and awards phases, helping to build public excitement ahead of the main event.
To the public, she emphasised that NAMA belongs to the people.
“This is your awards ceremony. Support the nominated artists, attend the events, and vote in the People’s Choice Award. The artists create for you, and your appreciation is their greatest reward.”

First held in 2002, the National Arts Merit Awards are Zimbabwe’s most prestigious arts honours, recognising excellence across various disciplines including music, film, theatre, dance, literature, visual arts, media, and fashion.
