Mokoomba at The Grub
Zimbabwe’s internationally acclaimed afro-fusion band Mokoomba will wrap up their year with a special homecoming performance at The Grub Restaurant & Pub in Eastlea this Friday.
The show, billed as their “Thanksgiving Concert,” marks their final appearance of 2025 following a busy European tour that reinforced their status as one of Africa’s most dynamic live acts.
The event will start at 8 pm and will run late into the night, with fans expected to enjoy an evening of high-energy music, dance and traditional food.
A Band That Rose From Victoria Falls to World Stages

Mokoomba’s journey began in the township of Chinotimba, in the resort town of Victoria Falls.
Over the years, the group has become one of Zimbabwe’s greatest cultural exports, known for blending modern afro-fusion with traditional Tonga rhythms and multilingual vocals that reflect the rich diversity of their hometown.
Their music, which mixes elements of soukous, funk, reggae and regional traditional styles, has earned them widespread acclaim across Africa, Europe, North America and Asia.
They have performed at major festivals and venues worldwide, and their albums — including Rising Tide, Luyando and the more recent Tusona: Tracings in the Sand — have been celebrated for their creativity and authenticity.
Central to their stage presence is frontman Mathias Muzaza, whose commanding voice and magnetic performance style have often been described as electrifying.
Live, the band is known for its tight rhythms, spirited choreography and seamless interplay, producing shows that are both musically rich and emotionally powerful.
A Meaningful Homecoming

After weeks on the road performing for international audiences, the upcoming Harare show provides a rare chance for local fans to reconnect with the band in an intimate setting.
For Mokoomba, who have spent part of this year touring European cities and festivals, this final performance of 2025 serves as a symbolic return home, a moment to celebrate their journey with the community that shaped them.
The “Thanksgiving Concert” promises an atmosphere of joy, gratitude and cultural pride as the band revisits its repertoire of hits that have captured global attention.

What Fans Can Expect

Fans attending the Thanksgiving Concert can look forward to a high-energy performance featuring Mokoomba’s signature afro-fusion sound, powered by driving rhythms, intricate guitar work and the commanding vocals from Mathias.

With The Grub’s intimate setting, audiences will be able to experience the group up close, creating a lively, communal atmosphere complemented by the venue’s offering of traditional food throughout the night.
Speaking to 263Culture The Grub’s manager, Mathias Bangure, encouraged people to come early to get seats since the place usually gets packed on Fridays.
“The Grub has been growing in popularity, and it fills up quickly, especially during weekends, so I would urge people to come early tomorrow,” said Bangure.
He added that this was going to be a spectacular show, highlighting that the setting was perfect for such an event.
“The Grub is well known for its traditional food, and if you pair that with traditional music, the result is something special.
“This is also Mokoomba’s last show this year, meaning the last opportunity for their fans to come and have a last dance, while those who are yet to see them on stage will get to experience the band’s live set.”
Mokoomba’s Friday appearance at The Grub is more than a concert — it’s a celebration of a remarkable year, a tribute to their roots and a powerful reminder of why they remain one of Zimbabwe’s most exciting musical acts.
