Ama2K Fest: Ruger, Scotts Maphuma and Naledi Aphiwe invade Harare this weekend

A new youth-driven festival is set to take center stage in Harare, as Ama2K Fest promising a high-energy celebration debuts on 4 April 2026.

A new youth-driven festival is set to take centre stage in Harare this Easter Holiday, with Ama2K Fest promising a high-energy celebration of music, fashion and culture when it debuts on 4 April.

Scheduled for Belgravia Sports Club, the event has generated significant excitement across social media and entertainment circles, driven largely by its continental line-up led by Ruger, alongside South African acts Scotts Maphuma and Naledi Aphiwe.

The festival is being positioned as a defining moment for Zimbabwe’s “Ama2K” generation, a term widely used to describe young people born after the year 2000, with organisers aiming to create a platform that reflects their sound, style and cultural identity.

Ruger leads with Afrobeats star power

At the heart of Ama2k Fest is Ruger

At the heart of the festival is Ruger, one of Africa’s fastest-rising Afrobeats stars. Known for his signature eye patch and charismatic stage presence, the Nigerian artist has built a loyal fan base across the continent since his breakthrough in 2021.

His rise has been closely linked to the global growth of Afrobeats, a genre that continues to expand beyond African borders into Europe and North America.

Songs such as “Dior”, “Bounce” and “Asiwaj” have not only dominated streaming platforms but have also become club anthems, particularly among younger audiences.

For many fans in Zimbabwe, Ruger’s performance represents a rare opportunity to experience one of Afrobeats’ leading voices live. His inclusion at Ama2K Fest signals the organisers’ ambition to align the event with global music trends while still appealing to local tastes.

Scotts Maphuma brings the Amapiano wave

Scotts Maphuma brings the Amapiano wave to Ama2K Fest

Joining him is Scotts Maphuma, representing South Africa’s globally dominant Amapiano genre. Over the past few years, Amapiano has evolved from a township sound into one of the most influential music movements on the continent.

Characterised by its deep basslines, log drum rhythms and laid-back grooves, Amapiano has reshaped nightlife culture across Southern Africa — and Zimbabwe has been no exception.

Maphuma’s presence on the Ama2K Fest line-up is expected to bring a strong dance element to the event, with audiences likely to respond to the genre’s infectious energy. His performance is also seen as part of a broader cultural exchange between Zimbabwe and South Africa, where music trends often move fluidly across borders.

Naledi Aphiwe adds a rising voice

Naledi Aphiwe will also perform at the Ama2K Fest

Also featured prominently is Naledi Aphiwe, a fast-rising South African artist whose growing popularity has been fuelled by both her music and her social media presence.

Her sound blends Afro-pop with contemporary influences, offering a softer, melodic contrast to the high-energy styles of Afrobeats and Amapiano. As one of the newer voices on the line-up, Naledi represents the next wave of African talent — artists who are building audiences not just through traditional media, but through digital platforms and youth culture.

Her inclusion highlights Ama2K Fest’s broader aim of showcasing both established names and emerging stars, giving audiences a more diverse musical experience.

Strong local line-up supports international acts

Nutty O, Bagga, Runna Rulez, Shashl, Atenda Chinx and DJ Yahya Goodvibes will take to the stage at the Ama2K Fest

The festival will also shine a spotlight on Zimbabwe’s own talent, with a supporting line-up that reflects the country’s vibrant and evolving music scene.

Among those featured are Nutty O, Bagga, Runna Rulez, Shashl, Atenda Chinx and DJ Yahya Goodvibes.

This blend of local and international performers reflects a deliberate effort to create a balanced programme — one that not only attracts audiences but also provides a platform for Zimbabwean artists to perform alongside continental stars.

In recent years, local acts such as Nutty O and Shashl have built strong followings, both at home and in the diaspora, signalling the growing reach of Zimbabwean music.

More than just music: a youth cultural platform

Beyond performances, Ama2K Fest is being positioned as a lifestyle experience. Organisers have hinted at a broader programme that could include fashion showcases, brand activations and interactive experiences aimed at engaging young audiences.

This approach reflects a shift in how festivals are being designed, particularly for younger demographics seeking immersive experiences rather than traditional concert formats.

The “Ama2K” identity itself speaks to a generation that is highly connected, digitally driven and culturally expressive, and the festival appears to be tapping directly into that mindset.

Ticketing, access and event experience

The festival will run from 12PM until late, offering a full day of entertainment.

Ticket prices were structured in phases, beginning with early bird options at $10 for general access, $20 for VIP and $40 for VVIP. Prices have increased in later phases, with general tickets reaching $20 and VVIP packages going up to $80.

Physical tickets are available at selected outlets in Harare, including Med Orange Pharmacy and Diamond Pharmacy, while online sales are being handled through Ticketbay.

The event is strictly for attendees aged 18 and above, with organisers promising high-quality production, sound and security.

A changing landscape for Zimbabwe’s festivals

Ama2K Fest arrives at a time when Zimbabwe’s entertainment industry is undergoing a noticeable shift. Promoters are increasingly investing in large-scale events that combine music, culture and lifestyle elements, reflecting broader trends seen across Africa.

The emergence of youth-focused festivals also points to a growing recognition of the economic and cultural influence of younger audiences.

With their strong presence on social media and their appetite for live experiences, this demographic is becoming a key driver of the events market.

If successful, Ama2K Fest could establish itself as a major fixture on Harare’s entertainment calendar — and potentially expand into a recurring brand that shapes the future of youth culture in Zimbabwe.
