Guti wins NAMA trophy design competition
The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has announced Derwin E. Guti as the winner of the #Nama Legends @40 Trophy Design Competition.
His trophy design was found by the adjudication committee to be well thought out, in support of the theme and the design identified with the programme and the organisation.
Derwin’s design incorporates all the items related to Legends NAMA @40 combining creatively known and enduring features like the eternal flame, which appears to originate from the revered flagship symbol of ultimate achievement.
The shape of the trophy and its opening at the stand base is quite creative and makes it unique.
Guti whose design was selected ahead of 10 other entries from designers across the country is a 25-year-old Zimbabwean residing in Harare who is into fine art, specializing in ballpoint-pen drawings.
Speaking about the trophy design he said he had planned to meet all the requirements of the competition.
“When I started creating the final design, I had two key points in mind, the NACZ/NAMA logo and Celebrating 40 years of Legends. I made sure to apply all of that to the design,” said Guti.

The artiste holds a Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Visual Communication and Multimedia Design, from the Chinhoyi University of Technology. He is a Freelance Creative Artist and Consultant doing works that require fine art, digital illustrations and concept art.
He said winning the design competition signalled a good start to the new year.
“I am so excited about this win. It has added to my passion and motivation as a freelance artist. I wouldn’t ask for more to a start of the year and I can’t wait for what’s to come.”, he said.
For his winning design, the artiste will pocket the ZWL$65 000 cash prize, access to the NAMA Legends @40 Awards Ceremony (subject to existing lockdown restrictions) and recognition at the NAMA Legends @40 Awards Ceremony in front of the legends and a large virtual crowd.
