Kriss Newtone fires warning shots on debut EP
A few days ago, someone contacted me asking if I had ever heard of an artiste named Kriss Newtone. Nope, never heard of him, I responded.
In my head I was sure I am not the only one who didn’t know about the existence of this musician.
Apparently this is a new artiste who just released an EP titled The Avatar State and his camp wanted me to check it out and to be honest I was not about to listen to his music.
However, after the music was sent to me, curiosity took over and I decided to listen to at least one song just to see what the fella is all about.
The first song on the EP is titled Hiroshima and there is no way I was not clicking that one first. And behold, an actual bomb. Befitting title it is, the song is that explosive.
Not to exaggerate or anything, this is a song that would not feel out of place on a GRM Daily playlist (GRM Daily is a top UK rap/grime platform). It’s a solid grime banger which I ended up repeating several times before moving on.
The beat is on point, the bars are on point and the grime flare is just unbelievable.
I figured I might as well try out the other songs on the project and I should simply say I was blown away.
This kid can rap; I have to give it to him.
While the first song is my favorite, there are other numbers on the 10 track project that also left a lasting impression including Sango which features Soko Matemai, Wazzanin, Vincarnation, Man Down, Beyond Earth and the title track Avatar, that order.
Zim hip hop is definitely on the right path and if more artistes like this keep on popping up, its going to be a force to reckon.
Hopefully his management finds a way to get his music to the masses because I believe this rapper has the potential to blow given the platform.
