Rosenior arrives in west London after an impressive spell in France with RC Strasbourg. In his first season overseas, he guided the club to European qualification for the first time in 19 years, earning widespread praise for his tactical clarity and ability to maximise the potential of his squad.

Before moving abroad, Rosenior built a strong reputation in England with Hull City and Derby County, where he was recognised as one of the most promising young coaches in the English game.

His work has often been associated with progressive football, a clear playing identity and a strong emphasis on discipline and togetherness.

Chelsea believe those qualities will be crucial as the club moves on from Maresca and seeks greater consistency after a period of transition.

Speaking after his appointment, Rosenior said he was “extremely humbled and honoured” to take charge at Chelsea, describing the club as one with a “unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies”.

He stressed that his priority would be to protect that identity while building a team that reflects Chelsea’s traditions on and off the pitch.

“My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies,” he said.

Rosenior also highlighted the importance of unity and collective effort, pointing to teamwork and togetherness as the foundation of future success.

“I believe deeply in teamwork, unity, togetherness and working for one another, and those values will be at the heart of everything we do,” he added.

Addressing supporters directly, he paid tribute to Chelsea’s fanbase, calling them “the soul” of the club and promising to give everything to make them proud.

“I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent in every single game that we play,” Rosenior said. “I cannot wait to meet you all. I cannot wait to get started.”

A former professional defender, Rosenior enjoyed a long playing career in English football, turning out for clubs including Fulham, Reading, Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion. Known as a leader on the pitch, he transitioned into coaching shortly after retiring.

At Derby County, he was part of the coaching staff during a challenging period for the club, gaining valuable experience in difficult circumstances. His subsequent role as head coach at Hull City further enhanced his reputation, as he implemented a modern, possession-based style while maintaining high standards of professionalism.

His move to RC Strasbourg marked his first senior role outside England, and his immediate success there accelerated his rise, placing him firmly on the radar of elite European clubs.

In a statement, Chelsea said Rosenior has demonstrated an ability to build teams with a clear way of playing while setting high standards both on and off the pitch. While player development will remain a key focus, the club made it clear that ambitions have not been lowered.

Chelsea believe Rosenior can get the best out of the current squad quickly and have backed him with the responsibility to ensure the club continues to compete at the highest level in all competitions, both this season and in the years ahead.

For Rosenior, the challenge is significant. He steps into one of the most scrutinised jobs in English football, tasked with restoring stability and delivering success after the end of the Enzo Maresca era.

For Chelsea, the appointment signals a commitment to a long-term project — and a belief that Liam Rosenior is the right man to lead it.
