Probeatz taking over the game…one song at a time

A decade ago, I wouldn’t have thought that Probeatz could make any significant impact on the Zimbabwean entertainment scene as a beatboxer.

This just seemed like something hip hop heads would do for fun to pass time and throw in a couple of raps, but nothing serious.

The 2015 DreamStar Zimbabwe Talent Show made me change my mind after the grand prize went to a beatboxer.

The following year, the same individual would go on to win several medals at the World Championships of Performing Arts held in Hollywood, and this time around he also prevailed in the dance category.

Takudzwa Mashonganyika, popularly known as Probeatz, has managed to take beatboxing to greater heights, becoming a force to reckon in an industry that is dominated by mainstream music.

He has been a feature on many major gigs where he always pull off explosive performances every time he takes to the stage.

Probeatz might have risen to fame as a beatboxer, but of late he is proven to be a jack of all trades.

He is someone who I can safely call a complete entertainer. He just seems to excel at everything he gets into. Acting, dancing, rapping, singing, you name it (he also dishes out FIFA beatings every now and then). I am still trying to figure what it is he cannot do.

When he decided to give it a shot at the rap game last year, I thought it was just one of those ‘once off’ episodes, something he was not going to take seriously. While his very first song, Very Limited Edition had a kick to it, I just didn’t see Probeatz making it big as a rap artiste.

Fast forward to 2020, his debut album Twenty-Five is in contention for the Best Album of the Year gong at the Zim Hip Hop Awards. He has also been nominated in two other categories, Hip Hop Personality of the Year and People’s Choice. Impressive right?

These nominations come as no surprise with the work the lad has been putting in throughout the year.

Probeatz has been releasing some really dope tracks and while some of them have slipped past without being noticed, there are several which have been hard to ignore.

The vibe on Ibanga Iroro and Tempted is mesmeric on many levels, with the artiste evidently discovering his unique sound.

Just a few days ago, he premiered the For You video and I couldn’t help but appreciate the artiste that Probeatz is morphing into. His growth is just unbelievable.

If one is to compare the music he was putting out a year ago and what he is creating now, you can clearly see the vast improvement.

For those who needed convincing that Probeatz is super talented, I urge you to check out For You. Pro really went off on this one.

The lyrics are rich, the vocals are exceptional, the beat is brilliant and the visuals are elite. I might sound like I am exaggerating, trust me, I am not.

Every time I play the song, I am getting some Wurld vibes. Don’t get me wrong, they sound different (or not so different), but I am just trying to give you an idea of the level that Probeatz’s music is at the moment.

Check out the video below and tell me what you think…
