Winky D HICC Crossover Show faces uncertainty amid venue dispute… as another event is also set to take place in the auditorium on the same date…

Zimbabwean music icon Winky D’s highly anticipated annual New Year’s Eve crossover show has hit an unexpected snag following a dispute over the venue booking at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).
In a press statement released on December 6, Winky D’s legal representatives revealed that the HICC management has prioritized another event on December 31, 2024, despite an agreement secured as early as May.
The development threatens to derail the star’s preparations for what has become a hallmark event for his loyal fan base.
Commitment to Fans
Renowned for his electrifying performances and deep connection with fans, the artist, whose real name is Wallace Chirumiko, had already made significant arrangements for the show.
The musician has long used the HICC as a platform to usher his audience into the New Year with a spectacular performance.
“This event has always been a reflection of Winky D’s commitment to his fans and his dedication to providing a memorable experience,” read the statement from Tsunga Law International, legal counsel for Desert Force Investments.
The statement highlighted that the unexpected change has placed the artist in a challenging position.
Discussions are currently underway to resolve the matter, but further details have not been disclosed.
A Blow For The Fans
Fans, who have eagerly awaited the event, have expressed concern over the potential disruption. For many, the crossover show has become an annual tradition, celebrated not just as a concert but as a cultural moment.
“This is deeply regrettable,” the statement continued. “These external circumstances threaten to disrupt what has been highly anticipated by both Winky D and his loyal fans.”
The legal team assured fans that Winky D remains committed to finding a solution. However, it is unclear whether the event will proceed at the HICC or shift to an alternative venue.

The situation underscores the challenges faced by artists in navigating logistical hurdles while maintaining their creative and professional commitments.
Over the years, Winky D’s crossover shows have drawn thousands, cementing his reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s leading musicians.
Known for his blend of reggae, dancehall, and social commentary, he has used his platform to inspire and entertain diverse audiences.
As discussions continue, fans will be watching closely, hoping for a resolution that preserves the spirit of Winky D’s New Year’s Eve tradition.
