Vice President Kembo Mohadi has underscored the need for cultural festivals to align with national developmental policies to foster sustainable socio-economic progress.
Speaking over the weekend, Vice President Mohadi, through a speech delivered by Skills Audit and Development Minister Professor Paul Mavhima, highlighted how cultural celebrations enhance the understanding of diversity among communities.
Addressing attendees at the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Culture Night Festival in Harare on Friday, the VP said, “This event offers a significant chance to deepen our appreciation of cultural diversity, integrating sport and various cultural traditions to deliver a unique experience.”
The festival, themed “Together, Sonke, Tose,” aimed to blend sport and diverse cultural expressions, furthering Zimbabwe’s efforts under the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) for regional integration, inclusive growth and sustainable economic development.
Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Charles Tawengwa emphasized the role of such cultural events in driving community development and engagement.
“As we move towards Vision 2030, which envisions an empowered and prosperous Zimbabwe, it becomes evident that our cultural diversity is a key strength,” Minister Tawengwa said.
“Celebrating our heritage helps us forge a more inclusive society where every individual’s voice is heard and valued.”
He also noted that events like these support the NDS1’s goals of leveraging cultural heritage to spur economic growth and strengthen social cohesion.
The inaugural festival showcased the region’s rich culture through traditional music, attire, performances and displays, providing a platform to promote heritage and tourism across participating nations.
