Miss Universe Commissions Boreholes in Harare
Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios has taken her global platform beyond pageantry, making a notable impact in Epworth, Harare, by commissioning two boreholes.
The 24-year-old Nicaraguan beauty queen encouraged stakeholders to alleviate the area’s persistent water shortages.
During the event, attended by local dignitaries and residents, Palacios highlighted the critical importance of clean water access, stressing that it goes beyond basic necessity.
“Water is fundamental to all aspects of life. It is not just a basic need but a crucial element for health, education, and overall well-being,” she said.
The provision of safe water, she emphasized, reduces the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera and dysentery, key issues that disproportionately affect communities with limited access to clean water.
Palacios’ message resonated with the residents of Epworth, who warmly embraced her initiative.
In an area where water shortages have long disrupted daily life, the boreholes represent a significant step toward improved public health and sanitation.
A Symbol of Collaboration as Miss Universe Commissions Boreholes in Harare
The event also served as a platform for highlighting the collaborative efforts between Zimbabwe and Nicaragua.
Miss Universe Zimbabwe chairperson, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, commended Palacios for her contributions, urging young models to use their beauty and influence for positive change.
Col. Chiwenga encouraged aspiring models to pursue pageantry as a way of effecting meaningful change.
The borehole project aligns with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to ensure that no one is left behind in the country’s development.
The provision of clean water in Epworth not only addresses an immediate need but also contributes to broader national goals.
A Global Presence in Zimbabwe

Palacios’ visit to Zimbabwe forms part of her worldwide tour during her reign as Miss Universe, with Zimbabwe marking her 29th stop.
Her time in the country includes a scheduled visit to Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
As part of her tour, Palacios will also engage with leaders in the modeling industry to foster dialogue and share ideas.
