Unplugged Celebrates 10th Anniversary This Saturday

Ten years ago, Unplugged held its first event at Gecko Hardens and while there were only 50 people in attendance, this was the beginning of something special.

It was the first time that Harare got introduced to a picnic type event with live music, a concept that would soon give birth to numerous other outdoor events in the capital.

While traffic was slow at the beginning, Unplugged would grow to become one of the biggest events in the country, attracting thousands of patrons each time it was held.

The aim was to discover and celebrate local talent and put the artists at the centre of Zimbabwean urban popular culture.

As a family friendly event and with its distinct blankets and wine style, it brought together the young and old.

Having started off as a monthly event, the organisers would go on to change it up and started hosting it three times a year.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Unplugged will be hosting a series of events with the first one on this Saturday at the First Capital Bank Sports Club.

Numerous artists including Feli Nandi, Freeman, Kim Makumbe, Denimwoods, Rimo and TK Beatz are set to perform.

Tickets are being sold for $10 for adults, $5 for kids and those who want to groove in the chill zone will have to pay $50.

As usual, cooler boxes are allowed.

“This year we celebrate all that Unplugged has been, all the local artists it’s been privileged to work with, the amazing teams of people that make it happen. And most of all, we celebrate y’all, who made all of this possible,” reads a statement released by the organisers.
