CKay added to Vic Falls Carnival 2023 lineup
The Vic Falls Carnival lineup keeps getting better as the fete draws nearer with the organizers recently announcing that they have roped in Nigerian superstar CKay.
The carnival will take place from the 28th to the 30th of April in the resort town of Victoria Falls with the main stage set up at the Elephant Hills Resort.
While the list of artists set to perform at the event was already packed with continental heavyweights, it seems like the organisers are not seating back. They are actually adding more flames to the fire.
The CKay Effect
CKay, also known as ‘Africa’s Boyfriend’, has risen to become one of the biggest musicians in the world.
The 27-year-old is spearheading a self-coined subgenre “Emo-Afrobeat”, to best describe the star’s sound.
His hit songs “Love Nwantiti” and “Felony,” have propelled the musician to global stardom. “Love Nwantiti” has been one of the most influential singles on social media platforms including Tik Tok and Instagram.
CKay’s remix of “Love Nwantiti” featuring DJ Yo and Axel, became the most Shazamed song in the world and pushed him into the history books to become the first African artist to hit 20 million Spotify Listeners.
According to Warner Music, “CKay sits at the forefront of the Afrobeats canon” and he continues to soar up global charts with his most recent single ‘Emiliana‘ surpassing 100 million streams.
Some of his songs include “By Now”, “Cocoro”, “Come Close”, “You”, “Isabella” and “Lose You” to name a few.
Those who have been following the Afrobeat movement can confirm that this artist is a powerhouse.
“The mission is to take African music to the world,” said CKay.
“We’ve already done that, but it’s still work in progress, still adding more building blocks every day, trying to expand our reach. I feel African music is too amazing to keep to ourselves, I think we should spread it and hold on to it at the same time.”
Ckay will perform on the Vic Falls Carnival Main Stage at the Elephant Hills Resort in Zimbabwe and at the Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort in Zambia.
For the first time, the Vic Falls Carnival will be held across two countries, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The “VFC: Destination Livingstone” is being held in partnership with Timedia, Kulture Xchange, and Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort.
VFC Destination: Livingstone takes place at the Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort over the same weekend, featuring headline acts from Vic Falls Carnival as well as a host of local acts.
Carnival Director Craig Bright revealed that VFC Destination: Livingstone was born from the desire to include the Zambian side in the music experiences to create a bigger festival footprint and reach more fans than ever before.
Vic Falls Carnival 2023 will be bigger than previous editions in many ways. From the caliber of artists that will be performing to the number of side activities that have been added, this is a carnival not to be missed.
Other musicians that were already on the lineup include Musa Keys, Jah Prayzah, Oskido, LKG, Toss | Mdoovar | 9umba, Black Motion, Enzo Ishall, Anita Jaxson, Mac G & Sol, Mi Casa, Mafikizolo, Han-C, Khoisan, Tashinga, Nitefreak, Andrea the Vocalist, Doll Ya Mama and Boity among others.
