Culture Month 2023: Promoting Cultural Diversity, Unity, and Peace

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has announced that the theme for Culture Month, which runs from May 1st to May 31st, 2023, will be “Promoting Cultural Diversity, Unity and Peace”.

The NACZ is currently in the planning stages for the commemoration of this month-long celebration, which will provide an opportunity to showcase and promote the diverse cultural traits of Zimbabwe.

Stakeholders, practitioners, and the public at large are invited to participate in and initiate events that celebrate the country’s cultural diversity.

The 2023 Culture Month is a great opportunity for Zimbabweans to embrace their unique heritage and to promote social cohesion and integration through the arts and culture.

In light of the successful containment of the Covid-19 pandemic, the NACZ is calling upon stakeholders to craft events that will attract physical participation in large numbers.

This will create a friendly environment for big events and provide opportunities for people to come together and celebrate.

The theme for Culture Month is part of the efforts to enhance the growth of the creative and cultural industries in line with the National Development Strategy (NDS1) and Vision 2030.

By promoting cultural diversity, unity, and peace, the NACZ hopes to contribute to the development of Zimbabwe’s creative and cultural industries.

Culture Month commemorations are an extension of the World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, which is celebrated on May 21st.

This day was set aside by UNESCO in the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity in 2001.

The NACZ expanded the day to encompass a whole month designed to promote, commemorate, and celebrate Zimbabwe’s diverse cultures.
