Zayn Malik and Selena Gomez dating rumors
Musician Zayn Malik and actress Selena Gomez were spotted on a date in New York City last week, sparking rumors of a potential romance between the two stars.
The rumors began after a TikTok user uploaded a now-viral video claiming that Gomez and Malik had been seen together on Thursday, March 23.
The TikTok creator, @klarissa.mpeg, said she works as a hostess at a restaurant in New York City and shared screenshots of alleged WhatsApp messages sent to her by a friend, who also works at an NYC restaurant, saying that they had escorted Gomez and Malik to their table at the eatery where she works.
While the name of the restaurant was blurred out in the clip, the sender of the messages claimed to have seen Gomez and Malik “hand in hand” and “making out.”
Initially, celebrity gossip Instagram page DeuxMoi downplayed the reports, stating that they couldn’t independently confirm the story.
However, an eyewitness source later confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that Gomez and Malik “went out in SoHo in New York City,” adding that “most restaurant staff and restaurant-goers didn’t notice them.”
This isn’t the first time that Gomez and Malik have been romantically linked.
Their past was hinted at by DeuxMoi, who shared a screenshot of a message from a follower querying the rumored relationship.
The message referenced Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, who she had a highly-publicized on-and-off relationship with when they were teenagers.
During one of their “off” periods in 2016, Gomez reportedly accused Bieber of cheating multiple times, to which Bieber responded, “I cheated.. oh I forgot about You and Zayn?”
At the time of Bieber’s reported accusations, Malik was dating supermodel Gigi Hadid, with whom he now shares a 2-year-old daughter named Khai.
The former couple dated on-and-off for seven years before calling time on their romantic relationship in 2021.
Despite the breakup, the pair remain friendly, with a source telling US Weekly that Hadid has “no problem whatsoever with Zayn dating,” in the wake of the Gomez romance speculation.
