Counter-Strike 2: What to Expect in the Limited Test

Valve, the creator of the popular first-person shooter game, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), has confirmed that Counter-Strike 2 is on the way.

The company launched the first closed beta for the game on March 22 and selected gamers will have the chance to test the new update on Valve’s secure servers.

If you’re interested in testing Counter-Strike 2, this guide explains everything you need to know, including how to access the limited test, who is eligible, what’s included, and things to keep in mind.

How to Access CS:GO 2 Limited Test

Valve handpicks the testers for the limited beta, and currently, there’s no way to register for the test.

However, the company has promised to expand access in the future, so keep an eye out for a registration system.

If you’re one of the chosen few, here’s how you can access the limited test:

  1. Launch CS:GO on Steam and see if there’s a beta invitation in the Main Menu.
  2. If a popup window offers beta enrollment, click “ENROLL.”
  3. Download the CS:GO 2 data, relaunch Steam, and select Limited Test in the Main Menu.

Who Is Eligible for Counter-Strike Global Offensive 2 Test

Several factors are considered when selecting the testers for the limited beta, including playtime on official CS:GO servers, VAC status on Steam, and trust factor.

To increase your chances of being chosen, make sure your account matches the following criteria:

  • You have played the game on non-community official servers with no bans or VAC violations.
  • There are no VAC bans on your account. (Check by heading to Steam Settings, clicking Account, and then VAC Status.)
  • You have a good Steam standing.

Beginner players and those with bad Steam standing are unlikely to get invited for the limited test.

Furthermore, previous bans will carry over to the new update, meaning banned accounts won’t access the alpha release either.

What’s Included in the Counter-Strike 2 Test

The Counter-Strike 2 limited test allows testers to play Deathmatches and Unranked Competitive matches in Dust2.

Testers can also access their CS:GO inventory items, although they won’t be able to modify them. XPs are available in the beta and will be carried over to the official launch.

In addition, community map makers who join the limited test have access to Source 2 Item Workshop and can try their hand at some new features.

Things to Know About CS:GO 2 Limited Test

There are several things to keep in mind if you’re chosen for the limited beta:

  • The Counter-Strike 2 limited test is available only on Steam and for Windows devices.
  • Players cannot play the closed beta on community servers.
  • The competitive cooldown of CS:GO carries over to the closed beta.
  • The only way to modify CS:GO 2’s inventory is by doing so in the original game. (The changes carry over.)
  • The limited test’s closure date is not clear, but it seems Valve will not stop it until the game’s launch.
  • More free content is on the way for testers, including new maps, modifications, etc.

The official launch of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 2 is set for the summer of 2023. Valve has promised to provide more information about the game, so stay tuned for updates.
