The Vic Falls Carnival is just a few days away and many fun lovers who are attending the event are probably now putting the final touches to their travel arrangements.
With this being one of the biggest music festivals in Africa, thousands of people from around the world will be herding there. This means looking for accommodation could become quite hectic.
While some already have that bit sorted, there are some who will be doing things last minute which is not to be advised. From experience, we have noted that many hotels and lodges will be packed during the carnival.
Victoria Falls is notorious for being ‘expensive’, a sentiment which might discourage some people from attending this epic event.
Well, it might be true that the resort town can be pricey, but you can still attend the carnival even if you are on a tight budget. We have done it so many times.
The major obstacle is usually accommodation and in this article we will be exploring some of cheap available options.
Vic Falls Carnival 2023 Cheap Accommodation Options
Vic Falls Carnival Campsite
One of the most budget friendly options if you want to attend the Vic Falls Carnival is their camping package where you get a tent and a 3 day pass for US$248.
So basically if you are travelling as a couple, you will be getting a comfy tent for three nights, plus two tickets for the whole event for just US$495.
This is a bargain, considering that some hotels in Victoria Falls can cost more than US$500 per night.
We have heard some people say they are not comfortable sleeping in a tent, but honestly speaking these campsites are probably the best way to experience the carnival.
We have stayed in the Vic Falls Carnival campsite about five times and we can guarantee you will not regret going going for this option.
Victoria Falls Backpackers Lodge
Located just a short walk from the entrance to the falls, Victoria Falls Backpackers Lodge is another option worth checking out.
Just like the name says, the place is suited for those who prefer a backpackers setup.
The lodge is not just charming, but also offers affordable accommodation in a convenient location.
You can crush here for as little as US$15 per night.
Yes, you read that right.
The lodge features clean and comfortable dorm rooms, twin rooms as well as double occupancy rooms with their own bathroom facilities.
Camping space is also available for those bringing their own tents and they also have comfortable twin bed Safari Tents on the premises.
The communal kitchen is well-equipped and guests can use the barbecue facilities to prepare their own meals.
The outdoor area is spacious and comes with a swimming pool so you can take a dip and just relax after a long day of exploring.
Shoestrings Backpackers
This is one of the most popular places in Victoria Falls as it has one of the most vibrant bars in the town.
Shoestrings is a laid-back spot that offers a range of affordable accommodation options that suits various budgets.
Here you can also get a bed from US$15 per night.
The lodge has dorm rooms, private rooms, tents and camping space.
As mentioned earlier, restaurant and bar is also one of the finest in the area, offering affordable meals and drinks.
For those who want to continue the party after the carnival lights are switched off, this can be a good afterparty option.
Guests can also enjoy a dip in the swimming pool or relax in the outdoor seating area.
Shearwater Explorers Village
If you were to walk into Shearwater Explorers Village, you wouldn’t think that the place can fix any of your cheap accommodation problems. But it can.
This a 3 star budget-friendly option that offers a range of options which include serviced camping facilities, standard rooms and deluxe rooms.
If you are travelling with your own tent, you can pitch it in their camping site for just US$18.
The village is located just a short walk from the mighty Victoria Falls and also has a large swimming pool and a lively bar.
The property overlooks a waterhole frequently visited by animals, including elephant and buffalo.
Victoria Falls Rest Camp
Victoria Falls Rest Camp is one of the best places to stay on a budget in Victoria Falls.
Their accommodation options, including chalets, dorms, safari tents, and camping sites.
Located in the center of the town, it is convenient as you are able walk to most of the interesting places from here.
You can pay US$10 per night to secure a spot in their campsite which is also one of the finest in the area because of the green lawns and trees for shade.
Besides the campsite, there are a wide variety accommodation options to choose from, including self-catering lodges, chalets, dormitories and safari tents.
The lodges available for self-catering purposes come with two bedrooms and can accommodate up to four individuals. These are equipped with a kitchenette and a bathroom, with linen and towels provided.
The chalets come in various sizes with some accommodating two people while others can take up four people.
Dormitories are also a great budget friendly option.
N1 Hotel & Campsite Victoria Falls
N1 Hotel & Campsite Victoria Falls is a budget-friendly option worth checking out.
You can choose top stay in their dorm rooms, private rooms or pitch a tent in their camp site. They usually have tents set up during the carnival period.
Their camping facilities also go for US$10 per night.
The hotel is in a great location and is where you can walk to most of the major restaurants, shops, and other attractions.
The rooms are comfortable, and the communal kitchen is well-equipped. When we stayed there, the fridge came in handy in keeping our drinks cold.
The finely cut green lawns are well-lit and come equipped with power sockets and compact barbecue grills.
The hotel’s entertainment area has a TV and swimming pool.
Other Options
While we mentioned a few places that are budget friendly, there are many other available options.
There are numerous lodges that are not well known but are affordable.
There are also many people in the town who will be renting out rooms in their houses for reasonable prices during the Vic Falls carnival period.
You should also be on the lookout for packages that are being offered by travel agencies in the region.
