There have been many gigs headlined by top amapiano artists in Harare, but nothing compares to the one that is set to take place this week.

While it has taken long to bring the biggest duo in the game to the capital, the wait is finally over as the Scorpion Kings will perform at the Hippodrome on Friday November 22.

This is one gig that many fans have been begging for, but it never seemed to materialize for one reason or the other.

Now music fans have the opportunity to see DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small on the same stage for the first time in Harare thanks to Mashwede Holdings.

This will not be Maphorisa’s first rodeo in  the Sunshine City, having been here numerous times but seeing him behind the decks with his partner in crime will certainly be a different experience.

These two guys have been at the top of the food chain on the amapiano scene for a while, with a catalogue that is laden with smash hits.

They might not have created the sound, but they definitely played a significant role in making it one of the most popular music genres in the world.

Many artists including Sha Sha, Aymos, Samthing Soweto, Mas Musiq, Daliwonga, Young Stunna, Sir Trill,  Mlindo The Vocalist, Tyler ICU and Mawhoo to name a few owe their success to the genius of Maphorisa and Kabza.

If we are to start mentioning their hits, it might take a while to finish because that list is way too long to put together.

For music fans, this upcoming show is one not to be missed.

The supporting lineup is also great with Holy Ten, Master H, Tamy Moyo, DJ Rax, Selekta Base and Mashwede DJs on the list.

In an interview with 263Culture, one of the organisers DJ Iroq reiterated that this was going to be the biggest amapiano show ever held in Harare.

“This is the first time that people will get to have a real Scorpion Kings experience in Harare and having both DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small together on the same stage is a major affair,” said Iroq.

Some fans on social media have been asking if the two artists will actually make it for the show considering they have had legal issues in the country which led to them being detained at one point when they performed in Bulawayo.

“We can confirm that those legal issues have been resolved so fans should have nothing to worry about. There was a meeting between the Carnival team, the two artists and us where we managed to resolve the outstanding issues amicably.”

Despite the event being organised by Mashwede, they decided not to host the event at their own venue citing various reasons including weather.

“Remember this is the biggest amapiano outfit in the world so we wanted to have them at a secure venue that can accommodate more people than we can at Mashwede.

“We also noted that we are in the rain season so it would be safer to have this event in an auditorium. The Hippodrome is a fresh new joint where we can have over 5 000 people.”

Early bird tickets are being sold for $20 for general entry and $60 for the VIP but the price is set to go up once these run out and those waiting to pay at the gate might even end up paying more.

The tickets are being sold at Booties Pharmacies, select Chicken Inn outlets and Mashwede outlets.
