Miss Universe Zimbabwe on Today

The Miss Universe Zimbabwe pageant which is making its return after a 22-year absence will take place tonight at the Hippodrome in Braeside.

Twelve finalists, hailing from various parts of the world including Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Zimbabwe, will compete for the prestigious title.

The finalists are Amanda Mpofu, Life Matunzeni, Stacey Hall, Allyfina Mwanyali, Yamikani Nyenga, Audrey Ward, Prudence Moyo, Nokutenda Marumbwa, Brooke Bruk-Jackson, Angela Guta, Nicole Musiyarira, and Noliwe Shand.

The theme of the event is “Beautifully Confident,” and the winner will go on to represent Zimbabwe at the 72nd edition of Miss Universe in El Salvador, Central America, on November 18.

There, Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States will pass the crown to her successor.

The show will feature performances by seasoned musicians including Diamond Musica, Nutty O, Prudence Katomeni, Takura, and resident disc jockey Iroq, among others.

Miss Universe Zimbabwe license holder and national director, Tendai Hunda, a former beauty queen herself, expressed her confidence in the event’s preparation, noting that the 12 finalists have undergone thorough grooming and preparation for the stage.

She emphasized that everything is set, with good ticket sales and a focus on delivering a high-quality two-hour show.

The event will be hosted by radio and television personality Becky K, in line with Hunda’s preference for an all-female cast.

The red carpet will be led by Nicole, with other stakeholders joining in.

Hunda extended her gratitude to corporate sponsors who came on board at the last minute to support the event, including designers, makeup artists, and choreographers.

Guests are expected to adhere to a black-tie dress code, arriving at 6pm for the red carpet show before the main event at 7pm.

The resurrection of the pageant has been welcomed by locals, as the industry has faced challenges such as lack of sponsorship, scandals, delays in prize distribution, and nepotism in recent years.

As all eyes are on Hunda and her team to deliver a successful event. It’s worth noting that last year, her friend, model Hilda Mabu, successfully hosted Miss Zimbabwe Queen.

The last Miss Universe Zimbabwe contestant before the pageant’s hiatus was Tsungai Muswerakuenda in 2001, and the license was previously held by Yvette D’Almeda-Chakras.

Hunda officially obtained the license on April 4, 2023, for one of the world’s top four beauty pageants, Miss Universe, owned and operated by the Miss Universe Organization in the United States of America.

Hunda believes that the return of Miss Universe Zimbabwe will benefit the country’s arts sector and contribute to youth empowerment by providing opportunities for fashion designers, makeup artists, and musicians to showcase their work.
