Miss Universe Zimbabwe Lyshanda Moyas will depart for Thailand later today to represent the country at the upcoming Miss Universe 2025 pageant.
The beauty queen has promised to “shine for Zimbabwe” and bring global attention to the nation’s beauty, resilience, and potential.
Her departure marks a proud moment for Zimbabwe’s growing presence on the global stage, as the country continues to revive its participation in prestigious international competitions.
Ready to Represent Zimbabwe

Moyas will bid farewell to supporters at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport at around 4 pm.
“I’m both excited and humbled,” she said in an interview. “I’ve prepared mentally, physically and spiritually. While no one can ever be completely ready for something of this scale, I know I’m ready to shine for my country.”
The 25-year-old model and humanitarian is expected to join over 90 contestants from around the world for three weeks of rehearsals, cultural exchanges, and preliminary events leading up to the Miss Universe 2025 grand finale in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province on 21 November 2025.
A Journey of Growth and Service
Since being crowned Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2024, Moyas has devoted her reign to empowering teenage mothers through vocational training and mentorship. Her project, which focuses on sustainable livelihoods, has assisted over 300 young women across Zimbabwe by teaching them practical skills such as sewing, soap-making, and entrepreneurship.
She describes her advocacy as “a mission of purpose.”
“Empowering young women gives them dignity and opportunity,” Moyas said. “I want to show that being Miss Universe Zimbabwe isn’t just about beauty — it’s about using your platform to make real change.”
Her initiative has reportedly raised over US$60,000, channelled towards training programmes, counselling sessions, and small business start-ups for teenage mothers seeking independence.
The Look, the Team, and the Message
Behind her glamorous journey stands a dedicated team of Zimbabwean creatives.
Her national costume was designed by Ivhu Tribe, known for celebrating African heritage through eco-friendly materials. At the same time, her evening gown was crafted by renowned designer Zargue’sia, whose couture work has graced runways across Africa.
For her runway walk, Moyas has been coached by Royce Gavi, founder of Scarlet Studios, and her public speaking sessions were guided by Mr Gombera, a respected banker and life coach.
“Every stitch and step represents Zimbabwe,” she said. “From our designers to my mentors, this is a celebration of local talent and resilience.”
The Global Stage: Miss Universe 2025

This year’s Miss Universe pageant will be hosted at the Impact Challenger Hall in Nonthaburi, Thailand. It is expected to attract millions of viewers worldwide, with contestants showcasing not only their elegance but also their intellect, advocacy work, and leadership qualities.
The pageant will feature traditional segments, including national costume, swimwear, and evening gown competitions, alongside a series of interviews designed to assess confidence, awareness, and social engagement.
The reigning Miss Universe, Denmark’s Victoria Theilvig, will crown her successor at the end of the ceremony.
Zimbabwe’s Return to the Global Pageant Scene
Zimbabwe re-entered the Miss Universe competition in 2023, after a long hiatus, when Sakhile Dube carried the national flag.
Her participation reignited local enthusiasm and paved the way for a new era of representation.
Historically, Zimbabwe’s involvement in Miss Universe dates back to the 1980s, though the nation’s participation had been inconsistent due to organisational challenges and financial constraints.
The recent revival, however, marks a significant cultural milestone, celebrating national identity and the potential of Zimbabwean women on the international stage.
“Zimbabwean beauty is more than physical,” Moyas said. “It’s strength, grace, culture, and compassion — and that’s what I’m taking with me to Thailand.”
About the Miss Universe Pageant
Founded in 1952, the Miss Universe pageant is among the most recognised global competitions, celebrating women who embody intelligence, leadership, and purpose.
Owned by the Miss Universe Organisation, the event attracts delegates from nearly every country each year.
Contestants are evaluated across multiple categories — including interviews, social advocacy, cultural representation, and stage presence.
Over the years, Miss Universe has evolved into a platform for global conversations around women’s empowerment, education, and sustainable development.
Past winners have gone on to pursue careers in philanthropy, diplomacy, business, and entertainment, using their titles to drive humanitarian initiatives around the world.
A Symbol of Hope and Pride

As she embarks on her journey, Lyshanda Moyas carries more than just a sash and a crown — she carries the spirit of a nation eager to be seen and celebrated.
“Every time I step on that stage, I’ll be thinking about home. About every Zimbabwean child dreaming of a better tomorrow. That’s who I represent.”
Moyas’ journey is being hailed not just as a pursuit of beauty but as a symbol of Zimbabwe’s confidence and creativity — a message that echoes far beyond the runway.
