Miss Universe Zimbabwe Announces Audition Schedule

Organizers of Miss Universe Zimbabwe have unveiled the calendar for auditions.

The auditions, which will culminate in the Miss Universe Zimbabwe pageant in September, will embrace the theme of “Beautifully Confident.”

This theme coincides with the upcoming Miss Universe pageant set to take place in El Salvador, Central America, in December.

Preparations are in full swing for the auditions, according to Hilda Mabu, the Chief Officer and Creative Director of Miss Universe Zimbabwe.

In an interview with The Herald Arts, she revealed that the first audition is scheduled for this weekend, and the team will travel across Zimbabwe to scout for models.

From the initial selection, 30 finalists will be chosen, and the public will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite contestant, who will automatically advance to the top 12.

The auditions will kick off in Masvingo and Chitungwiza this weekend, followed by Mutare on July 22.

On July 28, the team will be in Gweru, and on July 29, they will head to Bulawayo. The last auditions will be held in Harare on August 5.

Selection Process and Finals

Hilda Mabu explained that a panel of judges will select 11 suitable contestants, while the public will choose the twelfth finalist through their votes.

These 12 contestants will have the opportunity to grace the stage on September 30 at the finals, where the prestigious title of Miss Universe Zimbabwe will be awarded.

Mabu emphasized that each province will have a representative chosen based on their ability to embody the qualities of beauty, confidence, and intelligence.

In the event that no suitable candidates are found from a particular province, no contestant will be selected, as the aim is to have the best representation of Zimbabwean women who can compete at the global level.

Changing the Game of Pageantry

With her vast experience in pageantry, including participating in Miss Supranational, Miss Intercontinental, Top Model of the World, and Miss Tourism International, Hilda Mabu expressed her desire to revolutionize the world of pageantry.

She expressed gratitude to the corporates that have supported the event thus far and called for additional support, aiming to deliver an exceptional show in September.

Mabu also expressed hope that the selected contestant would make Zimbabwe proud by winning the Miss Universe title in El Salvador.

Miss Universe Zimbabwe ‘s Return After a 22-Year Hiatus

Miss Universe Zimbabwe comes after a hiatus of 22 years, during which the license to hold the local version of Miss Universe Zimbabwe was awarded to former Miss Zimbabwe 2014, Tendai Hunda.

The last representative to participate under the license was Tsungai Muswerakuenda in 2001, while the license was held by Yvette D’Almeda-Chakras.

Hunda, the national director of Miss Universe Zimbabwe, and co-director of the Miss Zimbabwe Queen beauty pageant, expressed excitement about this opportunity for Zimbabwean women to shine.

The competition allows participation for women of all marital statuses, including those who are married, pregnant, or have children, with an age limit of 28.

Hunda highlighted the significance of Miss Universe Zimbabwe’s return, emphasizing the networking and employment opportunities it offers to candidates.

She stated that the competition not only has historic value but also has the potential to elevate Zimbabwe’s international status and contribute to the country’s arts sector and youth empowerment by providing a platform for fashion designers, makeup artists, and musicians to showcase their talents.

By resuming its participation in the esteemed Miss Universe pageant, Zimbabwe aims to make its mark and shape a future where women break boundaries and set new standards of achievement.
