Mbeu headlines Father’s Day event…after dumping family

Father’s Day is just around the corner and we have already started seeing many service providers, including restaurants and resorts promoting their various offers for the occasion.

While I might not be familiar with what is supposed to be happening on the day, my understanding is that it is a celebration of fathers, especially those who are actually playing that role.

We are already bracing for the social media barrage from wives and kids showering their husbands and fathers with praises.

I am sure this will certainly be one of those awkward days for men who neglect their families and those who upped and left.

This brings me to the subject I wanted to discuss today.

Just a few days ago I saw a poster advertising a Father’s Day Buffet Lunch at a pub and grill in Harare.

Interesting as it might sound, one thing that caught my eye was the artiste they invited to provide entertainment at this event, Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora.

Mbeu will be performing at Eclipse Pub and Grill on Fathers Day despite abandoning his wife and kid.

Mbeu is, without a doubt, one of the most talented musicians in the country and under normal circumstances, I would pay to go and see him perform live on stage, but…

This is the same fella who recently called it quits on his family, moved out and is now allegedly staying with a new lover.

Just a few days ago the artiste was under the spotlight after his estranged wife took to social media to highlight that he was neglecting his kid.

The story event gets more interesting.

In an interview with online publication Express Mail Zim, Mbeu said that he wanted a DNA test to confirm the child in question was his.

This is no surprise, with history simply repeating itself as the character abandoned his then-pregnant wife in 2017 to live with another woman (according to The Sunday Mail).

Considering his current situation and past adventures, I don’t think he is the sort of personality you would want to be the poster boy for a Father’s Day event. It just doesn’t make sense, at least to me.

What sort of message are you trying to put out there?

If I was promoting an event on such a day, I would certainly want to look for artists who fit the billing. Individuals who are model fathers, not someone who is moving in the opposite direction.

In other societies, there will already be an uproar with people calling for the show’s cancellation or at least the artiste in question to be replaced.

But then again, this is just my personal opinion.
