This transformative event, facilitated by esteemed US TV Writer and Producer, Matt Negrete, brings together six talented Zimbabwean emerging and mid-career screenwriters.

Under the guidance of Negrete, the selected participants, who secured their spots through an open call, will embark on an immersive journey to create compelling new works for the screen.

The intensive program will culminate in public readings, offering audiences a glimpse into the imaginative narratives that have been crafted.

The Almasi TV Writing Intensive serves as a unique platform to nurture the creative talents of Zimbabwean screenwriters.

It provides a safe and supportive environment where participants can delve deeper into the art of TV and film writing.

By exploring the fundamentals of writing for the screen and gaining invaluable insights into the US television landscape, participants will broaden their horizons and discover exciting career prospects.

Beyond the intensive workshop, Matt Negrete’s visit to Zimbabwe promises additional opportunities for knowledge exchange.

He will engage with local artists and creative industry professionals at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe on June 9th, 2023, starting at 15:30hrs.

Matt Negrete brings a wealth of experience to the TV Writing Intensive.

Notably, he has played pivotal roles as a producer and writer for acclaimed shows such as “The Walking Dead”, “White Collar”, and “Graceland”.

Currently, he serves as the Showrunner and Executive Producer for “The Walking Dead: World Beyond”.

Negrete’s impressive career began in animation, writing and producing for major networks such as Walt Disney Television Animation and Nickelodeon.

With a B.F.A. in Filmic Writing from the University of Southern California, he has a deep understanding of the intricacies of storytelling across various mediums.

Almasi eagerly anticipates the positive impact this training exchange will have on the Zimbabwean dramatic arts sector.
