Marshall Munetsi Joins Wolves on Deadline Day
Wolverhampton Wanderers have bolstered their midfield with the signing of Marshall Munetsi from French Ligue 1 side Reims, in a deal reportedly worth €20 million (£16.6m).
The Zimbabwe international, 28, has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with an option to extend for a further 12 months, making him the most expensive Zimbabwean player in history.
The move comes as Wolves aim to strengthen their squad in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Currently sitting 17th, just two points above the drop zone, the club has been active in the January transfer window, also securing the services of Red Star Belgrade defender Nasser Djiga.
Munetsi, a versatile defensive midfielder, brings a wealth of experience to Molineux.
During his five-and-a-half-year spell at Reims, he made 159 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 14 assists.

Known for his physicality, tactical awareness, and ability to contribute in both defensive and attacking phases, Munetsi has been a key figure for the French side, even earning a nomination for the prestigious Marc-Vivien Foe Award in 2023.
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi expressed his delight at the signing, stating, “We’re pleased to bring an experienced player into the group at an important time of the season. Marshall’s leadership and quality will be vital as we push to secure our Premier League status.”
Munetsi’s journey to the Premier League has been a remarkable one. Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, he began his career in South Africa with Ubuntu Cape Town and Baroka FC before moving to Orlando Pirates.

His performances in the South African Premier Division earned him a move to Reims in 2019, where he quickly established himself as a fan favourite.
Internationally, Munetsi has been a stalwart for Zimbabwe, earning 23 caps and scoring one goal.
For Wolves, Munetsi’s arrival is a statement of intent. Alongside fellow January signing Emmanuel Agbadou, who also joined from Reims, the club is hoping these additions will provide the necessary boost to navigate a challenging season.
As the Premier League season enters its decisive phase, all eyes will be on the midfielder to see if he can replicate his Ligue 1 form in England.
