Jah Prayzah Launches Chiremerera with Spectacular Performances

Jah Prayzah officially launched his 12th album, “Chiremerera,” with a spectacular event at the Old Hararians Sports Club last Friday night.

The evening was marked by an impressive stage setup and outstanding performances that captivated the audience.

The title of the album, “Chiremerera”, which translates to dignity, was beautifully embodied when Jah Prayzah’s mother took the stage to make the official announcement of the album.

This moment held great significance, as in Shona culture, the presence of an elder family member during important ceremonies adds a sense of honor and dignity.

The album itself exemplifies cultural diversity, with various cultural performances and featured artists contributing to its rich tapestry.

One of the most remarkable acts came from Kigali, Rwanda, where traditional dancers delivered an exceptional performance that left many mesmerized and inspired others to join them on the dance floor.

A music promoter in attendance commended Jah Prayzah for his unwavering dedication to his craft. “These impressive performances by Jah Prayzah (JP) demonstrate his strong work ethic and significant investment in his art.”

While acknowledging the sponsorship for the show, the promoter added, “From my knowledge of JP, I know that he also contributed his own resources. His brand attracts an audience willing to pay for a US$200 ticket, which is why he understands the importance of investing in his work. Even in his music videos, the level of investment is evident.”

To further enhance the cultural diversity aspect, local traditional dancers also showcased their talent at the event, providing a distinct local flavor.

The release of Jah Prayzah’s album, “Chiremerera,” is timely, aligning with Zimbabwe’s celebration of the culture month, dedicated to promoting cultural diversity, unity, and peace.

The album perfectly embodies the essence of the theme and offers a musical experience that resonates with the occasion.

During the launch, Jah Prayzah treated the audience to performances of his new tracks, including “Hurungudo,” “Hasha,” “Wanga Wakarara,” “Chiremerera,” and his intimate duet with Feli Nandi on “Sarungano.”

He also delighted fans with renditions of some of his older tracks, which seamlessly blended with the cultural theme prevalent in the Chiremerera album.

Attendees at the album launch expressed mixed reactions. Some fans voiced increased admiration and appreciation for Jah Prayzah and his work, while others felt they needed more time to fully grasp and enjoy the album’s contents.

Thandaza Mbele commented, “The album launch was top-notch, with an impressive stage setup and Jah Prayzah’s performance was flawless. However, I cannot say that I’m fully enjoying the new songs, perhaps because they cater more to those deeply rooted in traditional religion.”

Nyasha Chaka shared a similar sentiment, saying, “So far, I have enjoyed two songs, ‘Chiremerera’ and ‘Sarungano.’ With time, I hope to fully appreciate the rest of the songs.”

The launch event featured additional performances by Mwenje Mathole, who opened the show, Mokoomba and Baba Harare.
