Harrison Ford, renowned for his iconic roles in action-packed blockbusters like “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones,” is set to surprise audiences once again with his appearance in the AppleTV+ comedy series “Shrinking.”
The revelation came from Brett Goldstein, the writer and star of the hit show “Ted Lasso,” during a recent interview on Variety’s Actors on Actors segment.
Goldstein initially considered the idea of casting Ford in “Shrinking” to be incredibly far-fetched.
However, fate had a different plan when Ford’s agent read the script and expressed enthusiasm, leading to the script landing on Ford’s desk.
Ford not only liked what he read but also requested a meeting with Goldstein and co-creator Bill Lawrence before finalizing the deal.
The journey took an unexpected turn when Ford attempted to schedule the meeting.
Goldstein revealed that he missed Ford’s initial call, although he made sure to keep the voicemail as a cherished memento.
Subsequently, when Ford proposed meeting on a Saturday night in London, Goldstein regretfully declined due to a stand-up comedy performance he had scheduled.
Goldstein amusingly recounted his conversation with Lawrence, who insisted that canceling the gig was a no-brainer because it involved Harrison Ford.
Eventually, Goldstein managed to find a Friday night that worked for both parties, but the pressure was on.
With everyone in America reminding Goldstein not to mess up the opportunity, he arrived for the meeting feeling the weight of the situation.
According to Goldstein, Ford expressed that “Shrinking” had the best script and dialogue he had ever read, leaving Goldstein dumbfounded.
He even doubted whether Ford mistook him for someone else, finding the compliment almost embarrassing.
Goldstein’s uncertainty prompted him to confirm the script’s identity by retrieving it from a stack of papers on Ford’s coffee table. Once verified, Ford’s interest was confirmed.
Goldstein asked Ford directly if he wanted to be a part of the project, to which Ford replied with a resounding “yes.”
With the deal seemingly sealed, the duo proceeded to enjoy the rest of the evening discussing their craft over a delightful dinner.
Goldstein described the entire experience as surprisingly easy, almost like a joke.
“Shrinking” serves as Goldstein’s follow-up project to the widely acclaimed “Ted Lasso,” and its cast includes not only Ford but also Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Jason Tenie, and Christa Miller.
The series made its debut on AppleTV+ in January, eagerly awaited by fans of Goldstein’s previous work.
