Enzo Ishall fires shots at Zim hip-hop artistes
For the past few years, Zim dancehall has been one of the most dominant genres in the country.
While its influence has become questionable of late, it is without a doubt still popular.
On the other hand, the local hip-hop scene has been on the rise with numerous artistes dropping solid bangers that have been dominating the streets.
Some sections have even started arguing that Zim hip hop has overtaken Zim dancehall in terms of prominence.
One of the biggest rappers in the country, Holy Ten even publicly stated that Zim dancehall is dead, sentiments which have not gone down well with some artistes and fans.
In a recent interview on V Candy’s podcast, Enzo Ishall went on to address the whole satiation as he highlighted that Zim dancehall was still the bigger genre.
“Zim dancehall has managed to conquer Zimbabwe to the largest extent. They are trying to kill it but they don’t know how big Zim dancehall is,” said Enzo.
He went on to highlight that people cannot say the genre is dead when artistes like Winky D, Freeman, Nutty O, Bazooker and Killer T to name a few were still among the biggest hitmakers in the country.
More shots were fired as the artiste pointed out that it was easier for Zim dancehall artistes to fill up venues that it was for hip hop acts.
“You need three Zim dancehall artistes to fill up City Sports Center. Winky D, Killer T and Freeman will get the job done with tickets going for US$20. But you need more than 10 Zim hip hop artistes to fill up Harare Gardens for free.”
This is a debate that might take a while to end.
