Bulawayo Welcomes Nama Film Festival
In a groundbreaking move, the National Art Merit Awards (Nama) film festival is set to captivate audiences at Ster Kinekor in Bulawayo from January 26 to 27, 2024.
This marks a significant departure from its previous venues.
The eagerly anticipated film festival, bearing the theme KWAN22, promises an immersive cinematic experience for attendees.
This return to Bulawayo after nearly a decade showcases the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating exceptional achievements in the arts sector.
According to Tashinga Madzamba, the digital marketing officer at Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation (JCMC), the organizers are dedicated to fostering high-profile platforms that uplift Zimbabwe’s thriving arts scene.
Madzamba stated, “The Nama film festival acts as a unique platform to shine a spotlight on one of Zimbabwe’s fast-rising entertainment industries. The two-day festival will showcase Nama-nominated films as well as a few special features from up-and-coming filmmakers in the country.”
Moreover, the Nama Film Festival will host workshops led by prominent Zimbabwean and international filmmakers, providing invaluable opportunities for aspiring filmmakers to learn and grow in their craft.
Director Tinashe Kitchen expressed JCMC’s unwavering focus on artists, emphasizing the importance of continuing initiatives beyond the awards ceremony.
“As JCMC, our focus is always on the artist; we seek to showcase the immense talent that this country has both during and after the Nama awards themselves. It is important that such initiatives carry on long after the awards ceremony in order to create value for our artists and help them fulfill their dreams.” – 263Culture/Newsday
