Sometime last year the lyrical battle between Noble Styles and GZE was a hot topic as the two rappers were having a go at each other in the studio.

I have always been of the opinion that this particular battle was healthy for the hip hop industry because the noise surrounding it meant that even those who do not follow the genre ended up being drawn into the conversation.

The few diss tracks that were released on both sides were so lyrically rich, with hard hitting bars that were too hard to ignore.

While I am not sure who ended up winning that war, what I know for sure is that these two hip hop artistes are super creative and that was my take from that whole episode.

Fast forward to 2021, it seems like Noble Styles and GZE have put their differences aside to collaborate on a song titled Petrikupindapa which is set to be released on Wednesday.

The song also features Asaph, Blacperl and Jungle Loco, rappers who are gifted lyricists in their own right.

One this I like about this project is that all the artistes on it have always been competitive and I am sure they were trying to outshine each other in the studio during recording.

This collaboration comes at a time which Zim hip hop is on the rise with numerous new artistes making headway into the mainstream.

Asaph’s nomination for the MTV Africa Music Awards has sent a clear message about the talent that exists on the local rap scene.

There are numerous other artistes who have also been contributing to the popularity of the genre with the likes of Holy Ten releasing tracks that are causing a buzz in the industry.
