Everton Mlalazi shines at Spirit of Praise recording
Gospel musician Everton Mlalazi has once again raised the country’s flag high after delivering a memorable performance at the recording of Spirit of Praise 12 (SOP12), one of Africa’s biggest and most influential gospel music productions.
The live DVD and album recording was held at the SunBet Arena, Time Square in Pretoria on July 18, attracting thousands of worshippers from across Southern Africa for an evening of praise, worship and musical ministry.
Mlalazi shared the stage with some of the continent’s most celebrated gospel ministers, including Omega Khunou, Dumi Mkokstad, Takie Ndou, Nothando Hlophe, Mthunzi Namba and Sindi Ntombela.
The singer ministered two songs on the latest installment of the renowned series, Uyingcwele and Ngabe Safela Endleni.
Reflecting on the experience, Mlalazi said it was a privilege to once again minister on one of Africa’s premier gospel platforms.
“The boy from Tsholotsho was on the Spirit of Praise 12 stage once again, and it was such an honour. We had an incredible time during the recording, and I want to thank everyone who came to worship with us. Your love and support made the experience truly special,” he said.
For many Zimbabweans who travelled to South Africa for the recording, Mlalazi’s performance was among the evening’s defining moments. Gospel music enthusiast Craig Tsepo Ntuliki described the event as unforgettable, saying Mlalazi’s inclusion as the only Zimbabwean on the line-up filled many with national pride.
“The atmosphere was incredible. People travelled from different places to be part of SOP12, which shows how gospel music continues to unite people. Seeing Mlalazi represent Zimbabwe on such a big stage was inspiring. He ministered with confidence and passion, proving that he belongs among Africa’s finest gospel artistes,” said Ntuliki.
Another supporter, Mayibongwe Khuboni Maseko, who travelled from Bulawayo, said he had followed Mlalazi’s journey with Spirit of Praise over the years and believes this was his strongest appearance yet.
“After the success of the previous Spirit of Praise tour, I knew SOP12 would be another memorable event, so I made sure I attended. Watching Mlalazi share the stage with gospel greats like Mthunzi Namba was another proud moment for Zimbabwe. His performance of Ngabe Safela Endleni was one of the highlights of the evening. I am proud of how far he has come,” said Maseko.
Since joining the Spirit of Praise family, Mlalazi has become a regular feature on its tours and recordings, steadily elevating Zimbabwe’s presence on the regional gospel scene. – Chronicle
