Tory Lanez Denied Bail

Tory Lanez faced a setback in his quest for freedom pending an appeal to overturn his conviction related to the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion.

Back in August, he received a 10-year prison sentence in connection to the 2020 shooting of the renowned “Savage” artist, who was his friend at the time.

Lanez’s plea for bail was met with a refusal on Thursday, as the presiding judge cited concerns regarding his conviction for a “violent felony” and the potential risk of flight.

These details were conveyed by Ceasar McDowell, CEO and co-founder of Unite the People, a non-profit organization that is actively supporting Lanez’s appeal.

Prosecutors had initially charged Lanez with several offenses, including the use of a semiautomatic firearm in an assault, possession of a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Nevertheless, in December 2022, a jury delivered a verdict of guilt.

In response to these developments, McDowell issued a statement to CNN, remarking, “Mr. Peterson’s legal journey has been fraught with challenges since its inception. Despite the obstacles we have encountered, we maintain a steadfast belief in his innocence and remain committed to advocating for his right to a fair trial and the opportunity to pursue an appeal. The denial of the appeal bond is unquestionably disheartening, yet it does not waver our determination to fulfill our mission.”

It is worth noting that during Lanez’s sentencing hearing, McDowell was among those who spoke in his defense and highlighted the artist’s contributions of both time and resources to their organization. – CNN
