DaBaby is coming to Zimbabwe this September

Hip hop enthusiasts should mark their calendars as one of the biggest names in the genre, American rapper DaBaby is coming to Zimbabwe in September.

The artist who is well known for his unique flow and chart-topping hits will be performing live on stage at the Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare on September 23.

Organized by Roar Entertainment in collaboration with Talk Chart and Skystar Global, this event promises to be an unforgettable night of hip-hop music and energy.

While more performers are likely to be added to the lineup, so far local superstar Jah Prayzah has been announced as the main supporting act.

Who is DaBaby?

Born as Jonathan Lyndale Kirk on December 22, 1991, DaBaby, formerly known as Baby Jesus, is an American rapper who has taken the music world by storm.

His journey to stardom began with the release of several mixtapes between 2014 and 2018. However, it was his debut album, “Baby on Baby,” released in 2019, that catapulted him to mainstream success.

The album featured on the Billboard Hot 100 top ten, with “Suge,” quickly becoming a fan favorite.

Success and Accolades

DaBaby’s rise to fame didn’t stop with his debut album. His second studio album, “Kirk” (2019), made an impressive debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

The album included the RIAA multi-platinum singles “Intro” and “Bop,” further solidifying his position in the industry.

In the same year, DaBaby collaborated with renowned artists like Post Malone and Megan Thee Stallion, featuring on their hit singles “Enemies” and “Cash Shit,” respectively.

The following year, DaBaby dropped his third studio album, “Blame It on Baby” (2020), which achieved the remarkable feat of becoming his second consecutive number-one album in the US.

The album’s leading track, “Rockstar” featuring Roddy Ricch, dominated the Billboard Hot 100, spending seven non-consecutive weeks at the top spot and even receiving a Grammy Award nomination for Record of the Year.

In 2020, he lent his talents to the remix of “Whats Poppin” by Jack Harlow and the single “Levitating” by Dua Lipa, both of which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

His versatility and collaborations have garnered him critical acclaim and recognition from the music industry, earning him two iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Influence and Unique Style

Charles Holmes of Rolling Stone aptly describes DaBaby’s rap flow as “staccato, precise, and brutal,” with a forward momentum that seemingly starts rapping before the beat even begins.

This distinctive style is showcased brilliantly in his breakout hit, “Suge.”

DaBaby draws inspiration from artists like Future, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West, studying their progression and borrowing from various musical influences to create his own captivating sound.

Jeff Weiss of The Guardian compares DaBaby to rap legends such as Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Missy Elliott, and Ludacris, praising their shared inventiveness and humor in their music and videos.

DaBaby’s refusal to conform to current trends sets him apart in the rap game, favoring head-turning raps over conventional singing.

Tickets for Da Baby’s are supposed to have went on sale on July 25, but so far there is no concrete information about the pricing and where they are being sold.
