Andrew Tate Released to House Arrest Following Romanian Court Ruling
Controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan, have been released from custody and placed under house arrest, according to a recent ruling by a Romanian judge.
The Court of Appeal in Bucharest ordered the release of the two brothers, along with their two associates, Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu.
The four are required to stay within their residences unless they have judicial permission to leave.
The Tate brothers’ legal team had argued that keeping them in preventative custody was unnecessary when other options, such as house arrest, were available.
Both have been in custody since December, being investigated for rape, people trafficking, and forming an organized crime group.
They have denied wrongdoing. However, leaked court documents revealed testimony from alleged victims, claiming that they were forced to earn €10,000 a month on social media platforms under the threat of physical violence.
Six women have been identified by prosecutors as victims since the investigation began last April.
Andrew Tate, a British-American former kickboxer, was removed from British TV show Big Brother in 2016 over a video that appeared to show him attacking a woman.
Despite social media bans, he gained notoriety online, especially among young men, by promoting a hyper-masculine, ultra-luxurious lifestyle.
Twitter banned him for saying women should “bear some responsibility” for being sexually assaulted, but he has since been reinstated.
Upon their release, Andrew posted a video of himself pacing in a room while smoking a cigar, saying he had been in 24-hour lockdown since last year with no yard time, while Tristan tweeted that he had not put on a pair of alligator shoes in four months.
Despite the investigations, no charges have been brought against the brothers or their associates.
