2023 Metro FM Music Awards | AKA and Sjava Lead Nominations
South African musicians K.O, the late AKA and Sjava have emerged as the top contenders for the 17th Metro FM Music Awards, with seven, six and five nominations respectively.
The awards ceremony, which celebrates excellence in the South African music industry, will take place on May 6, 2023, at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga and will be broadcast live on SABC 1.
The Nominations
The nominations for this year’s awards were announced last week, with K.O, AKA and Sjava leading the pack in multiple categories.
K.O was nominated for Song of the Year, Best Collaboration Song, Best Hip Hop Artist, Best Male Artist, Best Music Video and Best Viral Challenge.
Meanwhile, AKA’s nominations include Best Hip Hop Album, Best Collaboration, and Best Male Artist, while Sjava’s nods include Best Traditional Album, Best Afro Pop Album, and Best Male Artist.
Other artists that were nominated include jazz singer Nduduzo Makhathini, Linda Sikhakhane, Mafikizolo, Nomfundo Moh, ZukoSA, DJ Tira, Mlindo The Vocalist and DJ Maphorisa.
The Metro FM Music Awards
The Metro FM Music Awards are one of South Africa’s most prestigious music awards ceremonies, recognizing outstanding achievements in various genres of music, including gospel, hip hop, and jazz.
The awards have been running since 2000 and have become a key event on the South African entertainment calendar.
The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts, who evaluate the nominees based on their musical talent, creativity, and impact on the industry.
